Rocky Mountain Roundup 2016/17 - Week 1


Parity Plays Part in Rocky Mountain Division 10th Anniversary Opener 


1/11/17 – Week 1 saw two Rocky Mountain Division originals, Golden Strikers and Edwards Freedom FC, return to action after a 5-year hiatus; matching scores with a pair of Southern Colorado rivals Colorado Blizzard and expansion Arena FC.

The Strikers hosted the division opener at the Golden Goal Sports Complex against Freedom FC in a closely contested match, where the visitors flew off with a 5-4 victory in front of an estimated crowd of 133 fans. Inversely the Colorado Blizzard closed out the weekend with the opening of their new facility, Soccer Haus Sports Arena, to a jam packed 420 screaming fans as they pulled out a 5-4 win in the final 45 seconds to protect their house.

This weekend boasts a grudge match with Arena FC hosting the Colorado Blizzard at the Colorado Springs Sports Center at 7:55PM on Saturday.  Then the return of the Rocky Mountain Bighorns with a newly polished logo, sees them pitching a Sunday afternoon game with Edwards Freedom FC at Soccer Haus Sports Arena; kickoff 1:00PM.



PASL Rocky Mountain Division Team of the Week

Colorado Blizzard Forward, Thomas Hoang, has been named the RMD Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2016-17 season after he led the Blizzard’s offense in a 5-4 comeback victory against Arena FC.


Here is the complete Team of the Week for Week One of the PASL Rocky Mountain Division:

GK – Justin Dzuba, Colorado Blizzard: Recorded 16 saves for a 80% save percentage and earned the win against Arena FC.

D – Matthew Jara, Arena FC: Notched 1 goal and put up 2 blocks as he attempted to help his side stave off the Blizzard.

D – Radu Marcu, Golden Strikers: Player Coach provided leadership from the back forward on and off the pitch.

F – Juan Garduno, Freedom FC: Provided the game winning assist in a tight match.

F – Caesar Castillo, Freedom FC: Tallied 3 goals for the hat trick and the 5-4 road victory.

F – Thomas Hoang, Colorado Blizzard: Registered a hat trick and 1 assist on just 3 shots on goal to lead the Blizzard in their 5-4 come from behind win.
